28th September 2008...The Blue Frog
Saluting all slammers… ...who made their presence felt at One Night, Stand a couple of Sundays ago.... Rock on! At No License Yet’s second One Night, Stand, I am proud to say that we had 30 poets perform... and unfortunately had to turn away some brilliant ones because we simply ran out of room! But take heart, beloved bards, for the next slam is exactly two months from now, on DECEMBER 7!!! Yes at the Blue Frog once again! And we’re capping at 20 this time, so register now by sending in the 3 poems you intend to perform to slam@nolicenseyet.com ... Hindi poets and female ones please make your presence felt in larger numbers!!! With Woody and Rahul in their bluesy best, creating a zone that all could float in... Slammers ranging from school girls to Wilson college kids to corporate head honchos to designers to an elderly, well-respected doctor to a retired chartered accountant... Hindi poets, English poets, Urdu poets...some of the poets from places as far-flung as Pune, Jaipur and Kuala Lumpur... topics ranging from American imperialism to shaving a nose hair, and a packed, enthusiastic and cheering audience, the Blue Frog was quite a sight that night...(that rhymes) Some of the popular acts of the evening were Atul’s "Laal kaccha" about his jihad against the Indian software scenario, Alfie’s "It’s a wrap" on plagiarism in cinema, Mukul’s "Thing" about poker chips, Rajendra’s "Bade Miyan Deewane" about an old man’s lust, fantasy and his daring initiative to achieve his young neighbour’s love, and Imam’s "Jaya Lolita" about Tamil Nadu’s beloved chief minister... and too many more to recount... The 10 finalists who made it to round 2 got to have dinner and drinks on the house…and the five who made it to the final round got to jam with the jazz and spontaneously synergize on stage!!! Alfie walked away with the title of ‘Grand Slammer’ for the evening... and a dinner voucher for two courtesy Blue Frog... Shivani Tibrewala Artistic Director No License Yet
