Whatever You Say...

What do two people who have nothing left to say to each other, say to each other when they are together?

A one-act play with three characters:
X, a woman
Y, a man
And Z.

X and Y are your average pseudo-intellectual couple who one day discover that they have run out of conversation. As they laugh and bicker and try to rediscover the meaning in their meaningless existence, Z enters their lives…

You can’t win ... no matter what you say. Or don’t say.

But you might as well enjoy the ride while it lasts.

Whatever You Say premiered on Nov 12, 2002 at Prithvi Theatre Festival.

Journey so far ...

Starting out merely as a three-page scene of comic dialogue between two people, somewhere somehow the words assumed a life of their own…and 14 drafts later, the script became a play.

Has since been performed at the Prithvi Theatre, British Council, Xaviers' Institute of Communication, IIT Powai, National Gallery of Modern Art, India International Centre (Delhi), IAS Academy (Mussoorie), Darpana Academy (Ahmedabad), FTII, Symbiosis and Corinthian Club (Pune).

It was also performed at Symbiosis (Pune), Natarani (Darpana Academy, Ahmedabad), IIT Powai (Mumbai), Xaviers' Institute of Communication (Mumbai) and British Council "Although the play dealt with a complex and serious subject like the relationship between two individuals, it was treated in a way that made it entertaining and humorous…Although it was the debut venture of writer-director Shivani Tibrewala, she handled it like a veteran. She has effectively used the genre of comedy in a unique way, at the same time sending across a message to the audience. Of course, performances by all three characters of the play -- Tom Alter, Mona Ambegaonkar and Sanjeev Vatsa - were simply outstanding ..."
